ROSEMARY

Rosemary is a common herb originating from the Mediterranean region. It is widely used around the world for its unique aroma, flavor, and medicinal value.

01

In cooking, rosemary is extensively used as a spice, imparting a rich aroma and unique taste to dishes. Whether it's roasting meat, vegetables, or baking, rosemary can bring a delightful flavor experience to food. Moreover, rosemary can extend the shelf life of food due to its natural antioxidant properties.

02

Rosemary plays an important role in herbal medicine. Its leaves and flowers are rich in volatile oils containing a variety of active ingredients, such as phenolic compounds, terpenoids, and esters. These components give rosemary antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant medicinal properties.

03

In recent years, rosemary extract, as a natural medicinal ingredient, has gradually entered the field of modern medical research. Rosemary extract has been found to have various potential pharmacological effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Among them, active ingredients in rosemary extract such as rosmarinic acid and carnosic acid are considered beneficial for the nervous system, cardiovascular system, and immune system. Studies also suggest that rosemary extract may have a positive impact on improving cognitive functions, reducing stress and anxiety, and even preventing the development of certain chronic diseases.

Main Effects and Mechanisms
Anti-oxidant

Rosemary's antioxidant components act as chain-breaking free radical terminators by capturing peroxyl radicals, inhibiting the progression of the peroxidation chain reaction. Since the phenoxyl radicals formed are relatively stable, they react slowly with lipid-matchlike compounds, thereby blocking the chain transfer and growth of free radicals, inhibiting the progression of the oxidation process.match

Anti-inflammatory

The anti-inflammatory mechanism of rosmarinic acid: (1) Related to inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) in the metabolism of arachidonic acid. (2) Has an inhibitory effect on the synthesis of complement-dependent PGI2, interfering with the activity of different pathway C3 convertases. (3) Antioxidant and free radical scavenging.match

Anti-microbial

Rosemary phenol and carnosol have strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, and Shigella sonnei. The mechanism is through damaging cell wall and cell membrane structures, disrupting the stability of the intracellular environment.

Metabolism Regulation

It is achieved by inhibiting the synthesis of cholesterol and enhancing the transformation of cholesterol into bile acids, thereby increasing the excretion of cholesterol; it can also inhibit the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) and fatty acid binding protein (FABP4) genes, thus inhibiting the proliferation and differentiation of precursor adipocytes (3T3-L1).

In addition to the applications in health supplements, food additives, beauty and skincare, there are also applications of rosemary extract in shampoo, perfume, cleaning agents, laundry detergent, soap, cosmetics, biological pesticides, tobacco, and other fields.

Rosemary, not only bestows deliciousness to cooking, but also demonstrates strong medicinal potential in herbal and modern medicine. Integrating rosemary into our lives may bring us more health and happiness, like a natural gift, lightly illuminating our daily routine.
