Dangshen (scientific name; Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) Nannf.) is a perennial herb of the genus Dangshen in the family of Platycodonaceae.
It is a perennial herb of the family Codonopsis. It originates from the mountainous forests and thickets at an altitude of 1560-3100 meters in northern China. Dangshen is a traditional tonic medicine commonly used in China, and in ancient times, Dangshen produced in Shangdang area of Shanxi Province was the best. The main components of Codonopsis contain sterols and polysaccharides, which are used in medicine and health products, beverages and food additives.
