Withania somnifera

Anti-diabetic mechanisms


  • Withania somnifera  can protect the pancreas β Cells, promoting insulin release.

  • inhibition α- Glucosidase and α- Amylase, while stimulating glucose transport, accelerates the transport of glucose ingested by the human body into cells.

Use contraindications


  • Forbidden for pregnant women: high dose of Withania somnifera is considered to cause abortion of pregnant women, so it should be avoided during pregnancy.

  • It is forbidden for patients with hyperthyroidism: Withania somnifera is believed to improve the thyroid hormone levels (T3, T4), so patients with hyperthyroidism should avoid using it to avoid causing thyroid dysfunction.

  • It is forbidden for individuals taking sleeping drugs and sedative drugs: due to the sedative effect of Withania somnifera, it may interact with sleeping drugs or sedative drugs, resulting in drowsiness or more serious side effects.

  • Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia / cancer: South African drunk eggplant is believed to increase testosterone levels in men, so it is also recommended to avoid the use of Withania somnifera in patients with hormone sensitive benign prostatic hyperplasia or cancer.
